ORIGIN
Sourced from selected Pinot Noir vineyards in the Southern Valleys of Marlborough.
VARIETY
100% Pinot Noir.
WINEMAKING
Selected clones were hand harvested from clay-based vineyards in the Southern Valleys. The fruit was destemmed into small fermenters, with a portion kept as whole bunches to provide structure and complexity. Prior to fermentation the fruit underwent a week-long cold soak to ensure density of colour. Each parcel was then inoculated with specific yeast strains isolated from Burgundian vineyards. Once fermented to dryness, the wine was pressed to French oak puncheons (20% new) to mature for 11 months during which
time they underwent full Malolactic fermentation.

VINTAGE
Record rainfall in July, August and a warm start to September, permitted an energetic start to the growing season. This coincided with double the usual number of frosts which were replaced by warmer temperatures and humid northerly airflows in October. Early season varieties flowered rapidly while later season varietals were slightly challenged by a cool, wet start to December. Increasing temperatures and a warm, dry January ultimately ensured an abundance of fruit.
Despite heavy February rains, good vineyard practice and increased sunshine hours through the tail end of February meant the vast majority of the resulting fruit was clean and ripe.
Harvesting began in early March due to early season disease pressure with positive fruit flavours indicating physiological ripeness.
The team are excited about the structural diversity and bright complex flavours of the 2022 wines.

About The Kings Series
About The Kings Series
Among the twisted vines of owner Brent Marris’ ancestry was William de Marisco, said to be one of the illegitimate sons of King Henry the First. In the twelfth and thirteenth century, the de Mariscos' inhabited Lundy island off the south-west coast of England, engaged in a tempestuous relationship with the monarchy of the time. At times receiving favour, and at others displeasure, the de Mariscos’ acts of piracy and treason defined their place in history. Celebrating his scandalous family history, Brent Marris presents The Kings Series.
