Our Story

Marisco Family Vineyards Award-Winning Marlborough Winery

Marisco Vineyards is a family-owned and operated, award-winning Marlborough wine producer and home to iconic wine brand The Ned.

Established in 2006, The Ned was the passion project of esteemed Marlborough winemaker Brent Marris, inspired by his childhood stomping ground in Marlborough's Wither Hills range. Following The Ned's meteoric rise to fame Brent turned to his own family history for inspiration when looking to expand the portfolio. This saw the birth of The Kings' Series brand in 2009, a series of wines that pay homage to the scandalous and often notorious stories of Marris' own forebears; the de Marisco's.

With roots deeply embedded in Marlborough and an unwavering sense of family, owners Brent and Rosemary Marris are passionate about creating a family legacy.

This has driven growth into the ultra-premium wine space with the creation of The Craft Series brand, a range of wines dedicated to people that have been key to the growth and success of Marisco Vineyards. This began with a tribute to Brent's own father, John Marris, a true pioneer. Fondly referred to as a founding father of the Marlborough wine industry, John worked on behalf of Montana wines from 1972, first identifying and sourcing land suitable for grape growing and then as Operations Manager and Viticultural Advisor for 10 years.

With a strong desire to see their legacy live on, Brent and Rosemary went on to purchase the historic Leefield Station property in 2013.

Carefully shaping the land into vineyards, the mindful establishment of a fully working farm and preservation of native bush, this property promises to be every bit as special as its history suggests. The subsequent development of its eponymous wine brand... With four daughters who all grew up spending time in the vineyards and wineries with their father, it was inevitable that winemaking would be in their blood. Emma, the eldest, followed in her father's footsteps to Roseworthy College and has now taken on the role of Production Winemaker and Georgia has joined the marketing team - both of them making their mark.
