It’s always rewarding to see talent recognised on the world stage — especially when it’s someone from within our own Marisco fold.
At this year’s International Wine Challenge, Emma Marris was awarded two Trophy wins for her Emma Marris Chardonnay 2023 and Emma Marris Pinot Noir 2024 — an outstanding result at one of the wine world’s most respected competitions. Here is what they had to say:
Marlborough Chardonnay Trophy:Marisco Vineyards Emma Marris Chardonnay 2023, 97pts. Judges’ comment: “Marlborough is world famous for its crisp, fresh, green-tinged Sauvignon, but the cool conditions are equally good for Chardonnay and this one is beautifully balanced by yellow apple, golden peach fruit and marzipan with strong hazelnut and a kick of salt. Rich and lush!”
Marlborough Pinot Noir Trophy: Marisco Vineyards Emma Marris Pinot Noir 2023, 95pts. Judges’ comment: “Fine, fragrant, and nuanced, this Pinot Noir offers a core of sweet strawberry and raspberry fruit combining textured, harmonious and elegant fruit with nice structure and acidity.”
These accolades mark a significant moment in Emma’s career and speak to the clarity and conviction behind her winemaking approach. Her wines are considered, balanced and expressive — showing not just technical skill, but a strong sense of purpose and direction.
While Emma has grown up surrounded by vineyards and cellars, her journey as a winemaker is still taking shape — and these early achievements offer a promising glimpse of what’s to come. The fact that she lends her name to the wines speaks less to resting on legacy and more to owning her role in a family story that continues to evolve.
Earlier this year, Emma returned to Marisco in the role of Assistant Managing Director / Winemaker, bringing with her a fresh perspective and a clear enthusiasm for the next chapter. As with all members of the Marris family involved in the business, Emma’s path is her own — and we’re quietly proud to see it recognised in such a meaningful way.
We look forward to seeing where she takes things next.
